- The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Shatrah held the defence of a master's thesis
- by the student Karrar Fadhil Hassan
- in the Branch of Microbiology, entitled:
- “Molecular Detection of the Main Bacterial Isolates Associated with Urinary Tract Infection in the North of Dhi Qar Governorate”, on Wednesday 3 September 2025.
- The results of the study showed that females are more susceptible to urinary tract infections, with the rate of positive infections among them reaching 60.5% compared with males, who made up 39.5%. It was also found that E. coli bacteria were the most common cause of these infections.
- The study indicated that the highest rate of bacterial infection was recorded in urban areas (53.49%) compared with rural areas (46.5%). The results also showed that the most affected age group was between 61–70 years.
- The researcher stressed that urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a major global health concern, given the high infection rates they cause as a result of bacterial colonisation of the urinary tract. The study collected 150 samples from patients suffering from symptoms of urinary tract infection.
- After an extensive discussion of the thesis topic, and praising the student's efforts in defending his work, the examination committee decided to award him the grade of Excellent.
