Department of Biology at the College of Education for Girls Organises a Scientific Workshop on "Time Management to Enhance Academic and Professional Competence"
Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Basim Abdul-Hussein Jarallah, President of the University of Shatrah,
and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Afrah Abd Maktouf, Dean of the College of Education for Girls,
the Department of Biology at the College of Education for Girls – University of Shatrah organised a scientific workshop entitled:
(Time Management as a Gateway to Enhancing Academic and Professional Competence)
presented by Asst. Lect. Sara Awad Turki, in the presence of a number of the college's teaching staff and students.
The workshop addressed the concept of time management from a systematic scientific perspective, showing its importance in developing academic and research performance and raising the professional effectiveness of students and researchers. The lecturer explained that time management is an organised process that includes planning, prioritising, implementation and follow-up within a specific time frame, with the aim of achieving the highest levels of accomplishment and reducing wasted time.
The workshop highlighted the main modern models adopted for time management in the university environment, including:
The interval focus technique (Pomodoro): allocating 25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break, with a longer break after four sessions.
Preparing weekly schedules for study and revision.
Setting fixed times for scientific reading and long tasks.
Separating tasks to reduce distraction and increase productivity.
The lecturer also showed that time management helps raise the quality of academic performance and reduce the psychological stress resulting from accumulated tasks, as well as promoting a balance between study and personal life.
The workshop concluded by affirming that time management is not merely an individual skill but an essential element in raising the efficiency of university institutions, and that adopting modern scientific methods helps students improve their performance and achieve their academic and professional goals more efficiently.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific activities organised by the Department of Biology, within the college's support for academic development programmes and the development of students' skills
